SkarvaLodge
Glen Skarva Established 1908
Nine rooms at fourteen hundred and eighty feet
Dinner at half past seven, one sitting, everybody at once
The approach
Eleven miles of single track, and a plough at six.
Glen Skarva runs north east from Ardvane and stops at the lodge. One road, single track, passing places marked and unmarked. Cleared at six in the morning and four in the afternoon from December to April. Between those it is your own judgement, and a telephone call will get you an honest account of it.
Winter tyres December to March. Without them the answer is no. There is no fuel in the glen and no signal from four miles in.
The rooms: nine, in three kinds.
- Glen
- Four rooms at the back of the house, the quietest of the nine.
- £186
- Ridge
- Three rooms facing the corrie. All three have baths.
- £224
- Loft
- Two rooms under the roof, the largest and the warmest.
- £268
Per night, two people, dinner and breakfast included. Single occupancy forty pounds less. Two nights minimum, three over New Year.
The table
One dinner, four courses, twenty seats.
Written each morning around whatever came up the road, so the menu is a day old at most and never known in advance. Breakfast from half past seven, cooked to order, earlier if you are going high.
